Team Ico's The Last Guardian has been in development since 2007, and over the years expectations have built up, perhaps to unattainable heights. However, in an interview with Gameswelt, Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said he believes The Last Guardian won't fail to live up to these expectations.
"No, I'm not worried. I have confidence in the team and Ueda-san's vision," he said. "We are so excited to finally be able to play this game that needed to be out.
"Lots of people are waiting," he continued. "I expect people will enjoy it when it comes out."
Asked whether Sony ever considered cancelling The Last Guardian, given its long and problematic development cycle, Yoshida said "it was always in development."
He continued: "It took longer, especially when we made the decision to move from PS3 to PS4. A lot of the engineering effort had to be redone from scratch, so that contributed to the length of the project.
"Now, the team is very excited to be able to show off the game. But we don't want to spoil the story, so we're not going to show too much. We want people to really enjoy the game."
After years of development and multiple delays, The Last Guardia's release date has been confirmed as October 25. A new trailer for the game was released at E3 2016; watch it above.
